Alone Again
By Anna Evans
Anna Evans works from her studio on the Hibiscus Coast north of Auckland.
Her work is inspired by the landscape and places she grew up around, with a focus on native New Zealand flora and fauna. Anna’s works depict an era where birds ruled in unthreatened totality. Her signature use of vibrant and explosive colour echo the twilight hours when the birdlife she depicts are most vocal. Anna’s paintings are named after people and places associated with her sites of inspiration.
Anna’s work often features the Tui. This is a bird which, to Anna, represents strength and resilience as they are undefeated and not depleted in the face of colonization, unlike many other birds.
